In today’s world, toxins are an unavoidable part of life.
Yet, if we don’t successfully avoid them, they can become hazardous to health, wellbeing, and emotional regulation. This is why it is important to know how to detox your body. Detoxification is the process of removing toxins and other harmful substances from the body through nutrition, fasting, and colonics.
The best place to begin your detoxification and healing journey is at We Care Spa in Desert Hot Springs, California.
We Care Spa has been a beacon of wellness since 1986. Founder Susana Belen, her daughter, and the entire team all practice what they preach, so you’ll know just how well the practices work by their energy and aura.
The unique amenities, like healing installations and saunas, have helped thousands of people before you become their healthiest selves.
What Are the Benefits of Detoxing?

At the scientific level, detoxing primarily affects the organs in the body that absorb or collect toxins, namely the digestive tract, skin, lungs, liver, and kidneys.
Improving the health and functionality of your organs may seem abstract, but it has noticeable benefits that will impact your everyday life.

The We Care Spa Detox Experience

Treatments, classes on how to detox your body, and programs at We Care Spa are proven methods of taking control of your health. The experience is like none other, which is why guests often return each year or twice a year to fully detox their bodies.
Arrival & Amenities
The journey begins with making the trek to Desert Hot Springs in Southern California. It is recommended that guests prepare for the experience by doing a pre-fast or by only eating vegetables, fruit, juice, white eliminating heavy proteins, meat, and sugar.
All the accommodations at We Care Spa are designed to unlock a new level of rejuvenation. Guests who stay in the Executive Suite are treated to a 7-layer air purification system and the Circadian light system.
The room also has a detox bath and soaking tub, complete with organic bath products. Similar rooms open onto 600 square feet of outdoor leisure space where guests can enjoy a comfortable fireplace or do sun salutations.
Most rooms are equipped with a fully stocked juice bar and easy access to all the spaces where the healing takes place.
Healing Installations
The entire twenty-acre We Care campus is an oasis for you to become your best, healthiest self. Spread through the property are installations that are designed to assist you in your physical and spiritual journey in different ways.
- The Ancient Labyrinth – A winding path framed by stones that connects you to divinity through the archetypal pattern that dates back thousands of years. Over the decades, thousands of guests have poured their tears, dreams, wishes, and intentions into this space, furthering its power etc etc something like that!
- Meditation Pyramid – One aspect of learning how to detox your body is learning how to detoxify your mind. Pyramid shapes are receivers and transmitters of cosmic energy. Meditating under this structure can protect you from astral influences, de-crystallize negative patterns, and expand your awareness.
- The Floating Bed – Floating mimics the sensation of being in our mother’s womb, which is our earliest experience and safest sensation. Rocking in The Floating Bed benefits the lymphatic and circulatory systems, increases oxygen flow, and relaxes the mind.
- Fire Ceremony – This experience begins with meditation for centering. Guests can then connect with the ancestors who came before them by engaging in the purely human tradition of gathering around a fire.
- Exercise Equipment – Some equipment at We Care Spa may be familiar to you from your own home or gym. One aspect of detoxification is moving the body and learning breathing techniques. Other tools may be new! Different ways to stimulate your lymphatic system etc. etc.
Liquid Nutrition & Check-Out Salad
A core element of detoxing is giving in the nutrition it needs to heal at the cellular level while allowing your gut to expel toxins.
This is best done with the We Care Spa proprietary menu of shakes, teas, juices, and soups. For the duration of your stay, you will be provided with a liquid diet and an enzyme supplement.
Guests are eased back into solid food with a salad that they receive upon check-out. It is normal to leave We Care Spa with a new appreciation for organic, healthful food and the desire to engage mindfully in what you put into your body.
How to Detox Your Body: 5 Practices Used at We Care Spa
We Care Spa takes a holistic approach to health and detoxification. The following programs and treatments are combined to fully expel all toxins that have built up in your body.
1. The Signature Liquid Cleanse Program

A nutrient dense liquid diet is the best way to begin healing your body. When a person ingests only solid food, the body must devote a tremendous amount of energy into digesting all that food.
A liquid diet frees up all that energy, which the body can use to power the skin, lungs, kidneys, colon, and liver to release toxins.
Staples of the We Care diet are pureed vegetable soups, natural laxatives, fiber drinks, therapeutic teas, and drinks supplemented with wheat grass or barley.
Even after you leave this desert healing oasis, you can continue to live a toxin-free life by detoxifying at home. The We Care Spa store brings all the healthful ingredients straight to you.
2. Colon Hydrotherapy

Colonics is the only way to fully release what has built up inside your gut. The therapy involves flushing the large intestine with warm filtered and sterilized water during a 45 minute session with an experienced practitioner.
Beyond the physical benefits, colon hydrotherapy can have mental benefits as well. It is an exercise in letting go and relaxing, which is what allows the body to release both physical toxins and emotional toxins.
In addition to colon hydrotherapy, guests may also choose to get a digestive massage. This is a brief 20 minute session in which the therapist applies light pressure to the abdomen in order to release congestion, reduce bloating, and prevent cramps.
3. Infrared Sauna & Steam Room

An infrared sauna is a type of sauna that uses light to produce heat. While traditional saunas heat the air around you, this type of sauna applies the healing power of that heat directly to your body through the power of infrared light.
Saunas and steam rooms have unique health benefits, including:
- Improving circulation
- Supporting heart health
- Speeding up the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to muscles, which allows the muscles to shed waste products
- Alleviating joint pain
- By inducing sweating, the heat allows the skin to expel toxins through the skin
- Raising metabolic rate can aid in weight loss
- Heat can serve as skin care
- Activating the immune system
- Reducing stress and promoting mindfulness
4. Healing Therapies & Spa Treatments

As you learn how to detox your body at We Care Spa, you will find that a holistic approach is vital. While colonics address the toxicity that can build up in the gut, spa treatments are designed to release toxins from the skin.
Everything from skin care and household cleaners to air pollution and the things we touch can introduce toxins into the skin. Since the skin is the largest organ in the body, it is vital that this powerful barrier is properly cared for.
Treatments like wraps, scrubs, and facials unclog the pores to allow toxins to release. Wraps can also aid in weight loss, reduce cellulite, and tighten loose skin.
While physical treatments heal the body, reiki and sound therapy will heal your mind. Reiki is a centuries old Japanese practice that restores the flow of your natural energy.
After a session, you can expect to feel calm, less stressed, more mindful, and more connected with your body. Sound healing can also balance your mind to help you release mental toxins by aligning your internal vibrations.
5. Holistic Classes & Mindfulness Practices

We Care Spa is the place where healing and detoxification begins, thus founder Susana Belen will equip you with the knowledge of how to detox your body once you leave.
The following are a sampling of the classes taught by either Susana herself or another healer on staff:
- What to eat and what not to eat
- How to prepare healthy food
- How to detox at home
- Ways to protect and heal your gut to prevent illness
- Supporting your immune system with natural practices
- How to transition to solid foods after fasting
- Breathwork
- Sound, crystal, and reiki healing
- The psychology of change
- How to undo mind toxicity with hypnosis and NLP
- How to use “blessing bundles” to connect with spirit
- Yoga for healing, detox, and spiritual awakening
As you will discover during your time at the spa, yoga, meditation, and breathwork are the key to performing an emotional, mental, and spiritual reset on yourself.
Once you incorporate these tools into your daily life, you will be equipped to release mental toxins at home.
The Step-by-Step Guide to Detoxing Your Body

The healing oasis atmosphere at We Care Spa makes it the best place to detox from all of life’s toxins. However, visitors are advised to routinely detoxify themselves between visits in order to successfully avoid illness, disease, and emotional dysregulation.
Here are the 5 steps to remove toxins from your body wherever you are:
Step 1: Prepare Your Body
Before you fully engage in a detox, you will need to stop consuming foods that introduce toxins into your body. This means that you will need to stop drinking alcohol, eating processed or sugary foods, and consuming caffeine.
Depending on your normal lifestyle, you’ll need to stop consuming these toxic substances 3 to 5 days before you begin your detox. In the meantime, add whole grains, steamed vegetables, plenty of fruit, lean meats, and lots of water to your diet.
Step 2: Commit to a Detox Program
Choose a 3-day, 5-day, or 7-day retreat program at We Care Spa. Alternatively, if you are detoxing at home between your visits, plan the length of your detox and purchase the necessary supplies from the We Care Spa store.
You may also want to read our founder Susana’s book or listen to The Fast podcast for more information on how to detox your body.
Step 3: Engage in Holistic Detox Practices
It is important to detox each of the vital organs that are most prone to gathering toxins. This means that you should engage in fasting, colonics, and a liquid diet to detoxify your gut.
To release toxins from your skin, get a wrap or body scrub. Drink lots of alkalized water to flush toxins out of your kidneys.
To purge toxins from your lungs, do breathwork, exercise, and breathe in natural, pollution-free air. We recommend purifying houseplants like English ivy, Peace lily, and Bamboo palm among others
Step 4: Support the Detox Process

As your body releases toxins, it will need your support and care. Be sure to get plenty of rest and continue to give your body all the nutrients it needs to thrive.
If you are detoxing at We Care Spa, then meditation classes, yoga sessions, and emerging healing therapy will provide the self-care to properly align your mind.
If you are detoxing at home, you should utilize the mindfulness lessons you learned during your stay at We Care Spa.
Step 5: Transition Back to Everyday Life
At We Care Spa, guests are given an organic salad to help ease them back into solid food and everyday life. When you leave the spa, you should continue to eat soups, salads, smoothies, and whole grains to ease your gut back into your normal diet.
Processed foods should be avoided, as they will introduce new toxins into your digestive system.
As you return to your normal activities, the key to continued health is to reduce your toxic load.
This means eating organic foods, drinking filtered water, installing an air filtration system in your home, using mindfulness to temper mental toxins, and using non-toxic skin care.
Who Should Detox & How Often?
Ideally, everyone should engage in detoxification behavior in order to maintain optimal health, immunity, energy, and mental sharpness.
Detoxing is especially recommended for anyone who needs stress relief, wants to lose weight, and people who are beginning a holistic wellness journey.
After you learn how to detox your body at We Care Spa, your next question will probably be regarding how often you should detox. There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The specifics will depend on your lifestyle, overall health, and your goals. In general, Susana Belen recommends:
- Doing a mental detox with yoga, meditation, and mindfulness every day
- Taking a detox bath, fasting, and sitting in an infrared sauna once a week
- Completing a multi-day detox and undergoing colon hydrotherapy once every few weeks
- Doing a multi-day juice fast with colonics, extended meditation, and healing therapy sessions once every few months
- Visiting We Care Spa for a complete detox once or twice a year
